Financing compression - last obstacle facing to besieged representations which Corporation General Motors and Crysler LLC are invigorating for possible registration of bankruptcy internal automakers. GM and a Crysler have received united 17.4 billion $ in federal loans and have presented inquiries on Tuesday about additional 21.6 billion $.
For last two years the number of dealers of Massachusetts has fallen from 535 to 461, representatives of the dealer have told yesterday. It could be compressed much more further this year as GM, a Crysler, and other manufacturers clean to less and big representations.
"Now time to look in a mirror and to make some firm business decisions" on reduction of expenses or repeated discussion of affairs of the privilege, Scott Silverman, the partner at the Boston office of legal firm, McCarter and English which has a big automobile practice, has told to dealers in selector meeting yesterday. "Manufacturers are going to use any justification, they can to dismiss the dealer right now."
State auto dealers employ approximately 20 000 workers on sales and service, according to Automobile Association of Dealers of the state of Massachusetts. They make almost 20 percent of the state retail.
In selector meeting Silverman and partner McCarter and English Josefina Martinez have told, that going deep recession has thrown a cover on automobile business as the consumers appearing before the intense credit or afraid loss of their purchases of a delay of workplaces of new vehicles.
"Many dealers have spent money for the last years to modernise their services, but there are no clients," has told Martinez.
At the same time, financiers of dealers become more and more anxious by decreasing value of their property pledge: the vehicles, sitting not sold on representation parties. So-called lines of the decoration plan of the credit immediately while others have received reduction requirements have asked to pay some dealers, searching for faster lists of payment.
"They constantly are on a hook, and they constantly are under pressure to move a product," Robert O'Koniewski, the executive vice-president state auto dealers has told trade group. "We have 460 dealers through Commonwealth, and I would tell, that all 460 are anyhow mentioned by a problem of the decoration plan and a consumer problem of the credit."
Some creditors have notified dealers, that they will not provide any more a line of the decoration plan of the credit. The Supreme Bank which has a big presence at the Boston area, has made the statement in December, specifying, that it left, the dealer finance business. The statement has quoted "proceeding economic uncertainty, especially in motor industry."
Andrew Gully, the operating director of corporate affairs in Suveren in Boston, has told, that the bank has decided to stop to offer the dealer financing even before it has been got by Group Banco Santander of Madrid last month. The whole 2 000 representations could be closed on all country by the end of year even if GM and a Crysler do not declare bankruptcy, the National Automobile Association of Dealers has estimated.
But partners McCarter and English convinced dealers of Massachusetts not "to turn in your keys" and to surrender. "The fact - that [Automakers] still require dealers," has told Silverman.
